Because they want a sealed record that they were dealing with you specifically, not a stolen identity, not a synthetic profile, not a stock photo. Verifying once gives both of you a tamper-evident PDF you can refer back to. Buyers, landlords, contractors, employers, and private sellers use Truvee to protect both sides of a deal.
Identity verification involves sensitive information. The identity provider processes the document and live face capture. Review the Privacy and Biometric Consent pages and their approval status for processing and retention details. Your Truvee Record summarizes the result; identity verification is not a guarantee that a transaction is safe.
Truvee is identity verification, not a background or credit check. There is no credit pull, no public record search, no report on file with anyone. A sealed Truvee says exactly one thing: this person is who they said they were on this date.
A government-issued photo ID (a driver's license, state ID card, passport, or national ID card). Truvee accepts IDs from 100+ countries.
Recipients in the United States will be asked for the last 4 digits of their Social Security Number during verification. This is a US-only requirement from our verification provider and is used solely to confirm identity. We never store the full number. Recipients outside the US do not need an SSN.
You don't have to. Verification is voluntary. If you decline, the sender simply doesn't get the sealed proof, and they can decide what to do from there. Truvee never charges you, never adds you to any list, and never contacts you again unless the sender sends you a new request.
Timing varies by device, document and review outcome. Open the link, review the request and consent disclosures, then follow the ID and live capture instructions. Payment, documents or an agreement may add steps depending on the request.

One verification costs $6.99 USD total. The selected payer pays at checkout before verification. An existing credit is deducted when the request is created. Eligible unused sender-paid requests convert to account credit under our expiration and recall policy.
